The pandemic has slowed things tremendously. I've noticed CL and FB Marketplace ads have decreased a lot around here. I am sure the same thing is happening on BT (I've let my membership lapse). This is not a good time to be looking to acquire equipment.

I do my own work on equipment. I know of two places in the area that can repair equipment. One has more work than he can handle and the other is not interested in small jobs. If you have to hire someone to work on equipment, the allure of vintage equipment disappears. At least, the cost advantage is gone.

I do not like buying vintage gear that someone has already worked on. I do not trust others to do work to my standards. Unless you are capable of doing the work yourself, you likely do not have the skill to judge if someone did a good job restoring a piece of equipment. I've come across a lot of nice equipment that was basically ruined because someone thought they knew how to repair it or make it "sound better."

I did buy on there twice (I used to be GREAT at buying, selling not so great but I digress). Used PP and was willing to pay an extra 3% or whatever for protection though it did not become an issue. Both transactions went well and I got what I expected.

Yes, there is precious little oversight it appears. More people seem more interested in selling replacement capacitors and complaining that you said something in a thread that needs to be somewhere else, than in selling, taking about it enjoying gear. Sorry about your fortunes, will pray for an improvement. Stay well.

I'm getting along ok, I'm happy with my mid-fi system and don't foresee buying any new gear.
I can understand the number of WTB in BT because that was the only time I made a listing there myself.
But that doesn't help you with your search and I can see becoming disillusioned.
Hang in there, hopefully you will find what you want. Or something even better.
 
In the process of restoring some A25's that Pio1980 gave me a few years back.

I'm serious when I say that I could be just fine with these for the rest of my days. I have upgraded tweeters to Morel MDT37's, and replaced the single cap, and from initial impressions, they're just a hell of a lot of sound for the space/price.

Coupled with my KLH sub I found somewhere, they're so very pleasing.

They seem to make listening fun, versus, say, my Yamaha NS690 III's I'm playing now, which, are just too damned clinical. And yes, they've been recapped.
 
I think the price range for clean A25s is $100 to $250. I don't like the $250 part. Based on performance alone I place them at $150 to $200 in average usable condition.
I also think the A40XL is a much better Dynaco. The objective would be to get that for $200. Maybe $300 to the door. I payed $150 in D.C. 8 years ago. Glad I did.

What about AR 4x speakers? Both sets are reputed to be original owner who babies his toys like my wife babies our 21 year old (well, one of the 2) who is so evidently her favorite of our 4 kids (no matter what she says). Add into the valuation they are all original drivers, cherry, but I would have to drive 6.5 hours each way to get them. But I might also be getting a couple receivers from this gentleman so it might be worth the drive.

Sadly, this most definitely is not 8 years ago when it comes to vintage stereo gear, or bourbon. My two passions/hobbies/vices. Cheers!

A pair of AR 4x speakers has been on sale locally for several months. But the $100 asking price was too high considering that I have bought better (AR 2ax) for less and I cannot imagine the AR 4x displacing my daily listening speakers.
 
Don't forget EPI M100s. They do so many things very very well. I would take the M100s over the A25 any day or night! And for a somewhat bigger speaker but very very good, there is the KLH Model 6. Not sure about prices as the market is different around here, but they would be in the same range.

I am a big EPI fan as well, truly a great line of speakers, and usually very affordable. With that said, my ground-up restored Epi Model 201's are sitting idle, and I'm really digging on these Dynaco A25's. Much of the magic may indeed be the Morel MDT37 tweeter, as I have no experience with the original tweeters.
 
Likely! For some weird reason, i want my speakers drivers to be all original. Once the driver has been substituted, a lot of the allure goes. At least for me.

I totally and completely agree with ya.....normally. This frankenstein thing was born of necessity, and turns out, they're a delightful drop in replacement. I had them left over from some Cerwin Vega project that completely didn't pan out.

The interaction with the woofer is seamless. Truly a serendipitous accident. They even sound best set on "normal" as others say the stock tweeters do.

Thanks! I lust admit my knowledge of vintage speakers is limited to trying to remember what my non-scholarship friends had in college that I wished I could afford. But it was mainly Cerwin-Vega. Or Klipsch. And I loved the Klipsch: Heresy, Cornwall, and I am sure others. But they are impossible to find around here and are prohibitively expensive at least until we get our last kid out of college, so 5 years from now. Two down, 1.25 (second youngest is a junior) to go. I haven’t been asked to help with grad school yet......I pray that continues. I really only know the commercially successful brands: JBL, Polk, Infinity, AR and AL, but even then we left NOTHING stock (except Klipsch and CV) back then and cranked Van Halen most of the time. I do know I had some beautiful no name prototypes my uncle had built but I honestly don’t remember what happened to them (but I think I traded them towards my first ever CD player). He was an engineer with Tandy and what I would give to have his collection......but he passed away when I was in junior high in 1977 or 78. I will look at these other brands, but the main reason I have talked about the two I listed is because they are owned by someone I am trying to purchase a couple receivers from so make a big package deal.

On CL or where? I might be heading next week to your town to visit my daughter if she ever gets five minutes out of her pharmacy.
