Hi, Does anyone know what a working dynaco pat-5 is worth? Thank you. Ooops! This was a perfect example of what I was NOT supposed to ask. Let me rephrase: I am thinking about looking for a dynaco pat-5 and was wondering what you guys/girls think a reasonable price would be for one in good working condition. Thanks!

My recommendation is unless you are filling in a Dynaco collection just look elsewhere. While the PAT-5 is better than the 4 unless you pick up the end of production bi-fet version they just are not worth using. Even the bi-fet is not decent. Alternatively for a preamp on a budget look for a Marantz 1060 and pull the plugs and use the preamp. It is a very good preamp and far better then the Dyna SS at a price not far from the PAT.
 
Thanks! That is exactly what I am looking for. I have a citation 12 and no preamp. My Sony receiver does not allow for preamp function. I am looking for a good preamp that won't break the bank. I will check out the Marantz. Thanks again.

I just looked at the Marantz. That is a nice looking piece! They seem to be readily available and reasonably priced, too!

Look for the matching Citation 11 preamp. A really nice unit. These also usually do not go for big money. The Citation SS system was really a nice setup. The 15 tuner while not in the league of a Mc 77, Marantz 20, etc. is still a very good tuner and worth adding.

The system has a cabling challenge as the power amp can be connected to the 11 and from the 11 control 2 pair of speakers. The plugs used were common microphone plugs on cb gear but today can be difficult to find. So, if possible, make sure you get the cabling if the seller has it.
 
Thanks for the iinfo. Brian. I was looking for a Citation eleven, but the prices seemed high and I have not seen many. At the moment there is only one on the bay and they want 475.00. I realize this has nothing to do with sound quality, but the Citation 11 is just not astheticaly pleasing to me at all. I really like the looks of that Marantz you mentioned.
