Dynaco Stereo 70 question...

Greetings, All! I have one of Will Vincent's updated Stereo 70's and I love it! I'm wondering if anyone has used 6GH8's or 6U8's with adapters in place of the 7199's. If so, what were the results? I'm bent on squeezing every bit of music out of this venerable amp. Thanks and go Saints!

You'll get lots of opinions on this and most will probably be different than mine, but I like the 7199 and would use it. Yes, they are drying up and the remaining ones are pricey, but still, IMO they beat the pants off the subs.

With those adapters the 6BL8 is the tube to use, then drop the plate an cathode
loads on the phase splitter to half and that front end is pretty decent there then.

That is one tube I would try, I think it's a sleeper in the tube world.:music:

Gett'em while they're cheap.

Same pin-out as 6GH8 and 6U8, so with the adapters the 6BL8 drops in.
(plenty of nice European brands of 6BL8 as well)

How do the alternatives sound vs. the 7199?

Is this worth pursuing or is the 7199 the best way to go?
