Dynamic Duos

Today I was listening to Robert Plant's and Alison Krauss' - Raising Sand. Hearing this made me think of some other duos that recently have been on my frequently played list

Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campell - Sunday at Devil Dirt and Ballad of Broken Seas

Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris - All The Roadrunning

The Walkabouts - I like Chris Eckman's and Carla Torgerson's entire discography but Devils Road is a major accomplishment

Steve Earle seem to always have a duet on each album that is that albums highlight for me

any other dynamic duos stand out for anyone? It seems that my favorites fall into the somber countryish americana'ish vein but I'm always open to others

Well, have you dipped into Timbuk 3 yet? The MacDonalds (Pat and Barbara K) were a true duo on their first album, playing all instruments (I'm pretty sure). Their succeeding albums added other musicians, but it was always about the two of them. Great songwriting & musicianship, lots of good hooks, and sly, intelligent lyrics are evident in all their albums. And I think your "somber countryish" description fits them to a T (for Texas!).

Not sure if this qualifies as a duo in the sense that you mean it, but I always loved the duet singing of Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons. Emmy can make almost any duet partner sound good, but the magic she had with Gram was incomparable. No other way to describe it—just pure magic. :thmbsp:

Now yer talkin'. I may have to go drop the laser on that one (only have CD, no vinyl).

How about Jimmy Buffett and Kermit the Frog? Actually, Buffett's "License to Chill" album is mostly duets and it's pretty good. Of course, I'm a biased Parrothead.

edit: the synch is off something terrible in that video.

I only have the CD for that one too. But both Ella and Louis are so loose, relaxed from being good friends it makes the music so good.

I was really excited about the Raising Sand album, because I really like Plant and Krauss. It's recorded well, the music is good, wonderful vocals, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Don't laugh.......................

I grew up in Sacramento, Ca. listening to Jan & Dean.

On a later note......................

Eva Cassidy & Chuck Brown put out a great CD of old "standards".

Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry: They're what's left and still doing it.

FWIW, I saw these fellas last night at our County Fair. They sounded good as ever and I had forgot just how many #1 hits they had, played 90 minutes of chart toppers. They said 32 years ago, they were #1 on Billboards Top-100 and I can well remember when that tune came out. Boy I feel old. LOL I'd say they were a pretty darn good duo indeed.

I saw them at a county fair here about 20 years ago. Great show. Back in the early 80's they had a song called "Get Into Reggae Cowboy" that I wore out on a tape. Good call.

In another vein, I'll ad that Public Enemy was a pretty hot duo.
