Early Pioneer Bookshelf/Micro Speakers

StarMover

AlienToAllThingsAudio
I was out thrifting today and came across a pair of small Pioneer micro/bookshelf speakers with real walnut grain cabinets and silver metal perforated grills. What impressed me was the weight, I'll bet they weighed about 8-10 lbs each. From memory, the model was CS-51??

I haven't seen any reference to these, but they look like nice little speakers. Does anyone know anything about them?

Sure thing, but only by reputation for the PE-12 drivers getting at least $150 at auction. I recall seeing a pair close at $330+, but they had the boxes / documentation (all important for the neurotic collector). Hopefully you bought them(?)

The drivers look cool and well made, but the pragmatist within would dictate they already be up for auction.

The CS-51 is one of the most collectible of the early Pioneer CS series speakers due to the 4"(?) full range driver mentioned in the previous post, even though this model is configured as a two way with a cone tweeter. The PE-12 driver has a cast frame and huge magnet structure for such a small driver and that is where most of the weight comes from. Pairs in good condition will fetch $ 100 or more on fleabay from people who want the PE-12's alone. Many collectors keep them intact and will pay higher prices for perfect condition units.

I found a pair with a bad tweeter, so I mounted the PE-12's in an open baffle. I listen to the more than any other speaker I've got, because of where they are. Nice speakers!
