Imagine if your eBay listing was for sale at the same time another similar listing was on eBay. The other listing ended before yours. I bid on yours because it looked better or might cost less. So the buyer is sticking with your listing, the other listing ends. Then you cancel your listing because someone else offered you more on Craig's list or other sites. I think that's a bad way to do business. Why loose a potential repeat customer by ticking them off. When I sell on eBay, I do not list it elsewhere. Just place a reserve or higher starting price.
I once was looking for a car on eBay, seller stated, "vehicle is for sale elsewhere, I may end this listing at any time". I read that and went on to the next car for sale, I didn't bid nor did I ever look back. By saying, they reserve the right to cancel the listing, I figured there is a good chance this seller is not honorable and I'm not going to do business with them.
There are exceptions in my mind, like a prior ak member stated, send the person you shut out of the eBay bid 50 bucks because someone else offered you a ton of dough.
