eBay Returns Fiasco

...why is eBay telling me that the buyer has access to the label? I bet it’s a bunch of poorly trained reps simply getting it wrong.

My take regarding the reps is they are overwhelmed, overworked and underpaid and are subject to a quota of handling as many cases as they can in as little amount of time as possible. The resultant stress constantly being barraged from both sides must take a toll on their productivity.

While I'm not trying to make excuses or take their (the reps) side they are put in a shitty situation and that falls on ebay's management and business model which until they figure out a better work flow it will continue to continue.

Hopefully Ebay loses enough sellers that they decide to change their horrible policys I for one would love to see them go bankrupt and start over again, every policy change they have made in the last few years has absolutely sucked for the seller. There was a thread about stupid people started in back alley pub the policy makers art Ebay rank amongst the most stupid people on earth IMHO.

Ebay has become a monopoly, too big to be subject to boycotts and market pressures that should otherwise force it to improve. The money continues to flow, and like Google it has become a verb, a word known for selling on-line, not likely to disappear nor correct their many problems soon.

Bankrupt? Although this might sound like it would spell a win, it will more likely mean that the courts would allow eBay to shed and re-structure debt, further screwing those who it owes money and goods, erase some of its debts and continue making bad decisions.

It is what it is, some of us choose to roll the dice and continue (mostly those who are in the hobby/business of flipping items) and many others among us have decided to stay away (mostly those of us who want to sell an occasional item). For some it is worth the hassles and risks and for others it is not. Either way it will continue to stumble on and ignore the damage, like a drunk driver in a parking lot.

Totally agree. At some point eBay needs to take responsibility for these failures and not put it on the seller.

We will see what happens. I sent a label off to the buyers email address. According to the ebay reps this will be the 3rd label he has had access to. I bet he sends the item back. I think that we were both under the false impression that the ebay reps were capable of handling a return.

I've heard that Etsy now allows goods that aren't made by the seller to be sold when they're older than 20 years.

Maybe that's a better place to sell audio gear.

Oh, this isn’t audio gear related. In fact, I don’t sell much audio on eBay.. I've tried Etsy in the past. Very few views. I would say, less than 10% of the eBay traffic. Etsy wants you to promote your store yourself. They don’t do much as far as putting your items in front of buyers.

My take regarding reps is that they are third party offshore contractors, poorly trained, with no authority to make any real decisions. Due to the way ticket tracking works with most companies like this, they are probably incentivized to close tickets as soon as possible, even if the problem isn't properly resolved.

Hahaha!! I just got an email that eBay has decided to revoke their decision and they yanked the money back from me. I just called again. They insist that the buyer has had two labels provided to them.. so, I just appealed the appeal to the appeal. I’m not sure if this will ever end.

There's a moral to this story, and that is "Don't use eBay" if you are a seller, it's been geared towards buyers and as the old saying goes "Sellers go to where the Buyers are" and not the other way round.

There are plenty of other platforms around the planet that are for buying and selling and to me eBay have out lived their usefulness.

Cheers.

Also dont offer Free Shipping. Make the buyer remorse buyers pay for their own label.

Sorry you are dealing with this.

On a side note, Buyers that refuse to read the description really erk me.

I never offer free shipping. But, eBay will make you pay for it if you want the item back with a not as described or arrived damaged claim.. The item was properly described, but eBay doesn’t care.

Man that is terrible.
Ive bought from eBay sense the late 90s and literally just started selling January 2020 and I'm already seeing and experiencing several flaws in the system. I really hope this ends soon and well.

Well I’ll be. eBay has double reversed the appeal to the appeal and I have won the case, again! This is nuts. They just told me earlier today that I had 5 additional days to send the buyer another label.. I think this is the final decision. It has to be! Lol

Oh my god! Hand slaps forehead! I can't believe this comedy of errors!

Well, I do buy on ebay, and I might have considered selling there, except that the only things I would sell would be expensive electronics, so that's not going to happen!

Thanks for the entertainment Lazarus Long! I hope this is the end of it for your sake. I bet it isn't.

Quick Lazarus, close your eBay account and drain the funds before they change their mind again!

ALL CAPS BECAUSE THIS STEAMS ME. ALWAYS LIST DESIGNATED FOR PARTS OR NOT WORKING EVEN IF IT IS WORKING. For vintage items, I advise getting a restore and because I cannot warrant operation for any period of time it is listed for parts. Don't care if I don't get top dollar. Protecting myself from the lost time and aggravation is worth a lot more.

As suggested previously, the moral to this story is stop selling via eBay. They generally just look after buyers and couldn't care less how they stiff sellers. I gave up on eBay nearly 10 years ago and since then the horror stories just keep on coming thick and fast. This thread is another perfect example of how treacherous that site can be. I'll stick to Gumtree and various others sites where I have full control of what happens and when I've sold something then that's the end of it.

They can still return as “not as described” even if you list it that way. Once the buyer chooses a return reason, the eBay rep can’t do anything about it. At least that’s been my experience.

Regarding labels:
I don't think that it was Ebay (might have been Home Depot) but I once was emailed a return label that I couldn't print in Google Chrome.
I had to use Firefox to successfully print it.

Unfortunately eBay is still the best place to sell many items. The item in question here was a vintage Michael Jordan starting lineup NIP.
