Got my BA-5000 back from surgery at EchoWars house and now it is up and singing like a canary !! An awesome job on a pretty beat 5000. Now he is going to be stuck with my repeat business...lol....over and over again !! Thanks again Glenn !! Great Job !!

That beast had been severely 'struck by technician' previously, and was a bit of a chore to restore electrically (including needing four new filter caps at a cost of $200). But, it sounded pretty decent after all the surgery.

Oh...speaking of the caps. I had mentioned that the next BA-5000 to come in here was also getting new caps, and I thought that I might be able to save you $200 by using them if I had only thought of it in advance. Turns out that the caps I pulled from that second 5000 were also leaking, so if it makes you feel any better the idea would have been a bust anyway.

Glad she's there in one piece and functioning.
 
I have a prized KA 8006. I wish Echowars lived on the Canadian side of the border as my dream would be a re-build. I bought it new in 1974 at the age of 14 and it has been a constant companion with me ever since. A talented tech with an expertise in certain companies, in this case Kenwood, is very rare and for all he has serviced to this date, I place you on a pedestal!!

Don't let the border stop you..... Echowars has serviced a number of Canadian units, mine included.

You are near enough to drive it to Detroit and ship directly from a UPS or Fedex agent.

The extra $200 is a small price to pay for some definate peace of mind....lovin' the 5000...reel to reel sounds so nice through it...oh. The 2nd BA-5000 will be headed your way in a new box as soon as work settles down. Definately after Thanksgiving.
 
Vintageman1, I echo (ha!) what hpsenicka said. I am in Vancouver and sent by BA-5000 to him and had no problems. It is not cheap if your unit is heavy but it can be done hassle and worry free.

Look up my post titles "My Learnings On Couriers" in the packing and shipping forum, I detail my experience shipping over the border. Don't hold back if you are interested.
