And yes... it DOES make a difference. MAT surrounds on Advents or JBL 125A woofers result in a higher-than-normal resonance... boomy midbass, and a loss of low bass extension... on those, you should use the correct dedicated-manufacture surrounds (Advent or JBL 125A types, respectively)...

FWIW, I ordered MAT surrounds in a variety of sizes for 'economy' repairs because they're a buck or less each. Comparing the different sizes, the ones up to 8" are all a thinner gauge, more flexible material. The 10" ones that I got are all quite stiff, and as noted before, when applied to an Advent woofer result in a Fs around 35 - 40 hz rather than the correct 17 hz.
When I use Audio Atlanta's or Rick Cobb's surrounds they test out at exactly 17 Hz and fit perfectly with full Xmax available.

The cabinets are about 1 inch smaller in all dimensions AFAIK. However, they use the same drivers so if you were inclined to do so you could build a new cabinet of the proper size with the Advent woofers.
 
Has anyone tried veneering the NLA utility cabinets & making them presentable? I'm this close() to doing the deed to mine- but I may have to make them purty,too!

... you're been reading my mind? My NLAs are a bit natty looking. Thinking that old vinyl will strip off with a little help of something, maybe heat. :dunno:

The vinyl ones are easier to work on because the baffle is wider than the waveguide. I've never tried to 'peel' a pair but a heat gun is a possibility. maybe blast and scrape like old paint? Might be messy.

I've mentioned this before but probably to no avail, but it's my humble opinion and experience that vinyl stripping isnt necessary as you can veneer over existing surface as long a low/high/loose spots are removed and the surface is clean:yes:

IIRC, someone, maybe Zilch, did the A1's with the JBL 6" square waveguide and modified the crossover to suit. Check page one of the Econowave thread or ask him.

Somewhere buried in the E'wave thread I posted pics of my OLAs with maple veneer and clear acrylic finish. I tried to post pics to this thread but was not allowed to because they are already posted on the forum! Somewhere!

Find it in your list of attachments in User CP, "Copy Shortcut" and insert the image or the link in your post.

It'd sure be easier if the Attachments Manager returned the post rather than the thread where it's located.... :dunno:

You don't have to load the photos again. Just find where they are, copy the URL of the pic and insert it into a post as 'insert image' (advanced options).

I measured the front baffle and it's 11 3'4" inches wide so maybe the original wave guide will fit.
 
I just wanted to verify that this is the correct schematic for the OLA waveguide before I start buying crossover components:

I ask because the notes on the bottom denote a JBL waveguide, not the Pyle PH612 I ordered. I have already received the Selenium D220TI. I am assuming that this scematic is universal, and that the only variable is the type of woofer employed. Please, correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions.

I understand from the crossover schematic that the small coils need to be .60 ohms. I have a couple of 20 gauge .62 ohm coils. Will that work or do I need to get new ones?
