AFAIK, we have the same type as Rick Cobb. Probably from the same manufacturer, though I haven't specifically verified this. They do indeed have 17mm (11/16") roll width, and the correct "soft" compliance.
And yes... it DOES make a difference. MAT surrounds on Advents or JBL 125A woofers result in a higher-than-normal resonance... boomy midbass, and a loss of low bass extension... on those, you should use the correct dedicated-manufacture surrounds (Advent or JBL 125A types, respectively)...

FWIW, I ordered MAT surrounds in a variety of sizes for 'economy' repairs because they're a buck or less each. Comparing the different sizes, the ones up to 8" are all a thinner gauge, more flexible material. The 10" ones that I got are all quite stiff, and as noted before, when applied to an Advent woofer result in a Fs around 35 - 40 hz rather than the correct 17 hz.
When I use Audio Atlanta's or Rick Cobb's surrounds they test out at exactly 17 Hz and fit perfectly with full Xmax available.
