Hello, AK!
I was up all night reading about a speaker’s efficiency and an amplifier’s damping factor that made me want to get what the title suggests. While waiting delivery of a NAD 7240PE and a Hafler DH-110/DH-120 set, I am currently using a cap coupled Kenwood TK-250 (KA-2500) that I feel would benefit from a 16 ohm set of speakers.
Enjoying it with a pair of Boston Acoustics HD5s and Celestion 1s (w/o the passive sub)—which are both 8 ohms—gives me a damping factor of 23 or thereabouts. The owner’s manual suggests a damping factor of 46 if a pair of 16 ohm speakers are used.
Any suggestions on a good pair of 16 ohm speakers with a sensitivity of at least 95db? I understand the easy answer would be a big pair of Altec Lansing speakers, which I don’t have the real estate for .
The biggest speaker size that I can accommodate is similar in size to an Altec Bolero.
Would be interested to hear your suggestions.
