I have a question I hope someone can help with. A regular EICO AF-4 sold yesterday on ebay for $600. Nothing special, had not been reworked, in fact, very little detail for such a price. Today i was looking and saw a few Fishers from same era with BIN for $200-300. I have always heard that Fisher had a great rep in the 60s. I am surprised why it is worth so much less than a name most people dont even know. What gives?

I think there are a few factors at work comparing Fishers to this Eico.
In no particular order.
That Eico is obviously much much rarer than just about anything Fisher ever built/sold.
Fisher sold hundreds of thousands of just about any tube product they ever made. You can tell this by the sheer mass of tube Fishers you can find on eprey on any given day. Whereas with AF-4 you usually have to wait a few months or more to even see, let alone take a grab at another, as they only pop up at a rate of about 1 or 2 every 3-4 months, if you're lucky.
Besides it's relative rarity, the AF-4 is also an SE amp, which has a cache all it's own. Guys into SE stuff care nothing about spending $400-$500 on a single TUBE. :screwy: And the AF-4 is a 'relatively' cheap entry into that world. Not to mention the power of the internet cult built up around SE amps and the Eico cult, and the AF-4 cult.
Shill bidding could also be a major factor.

I agree with Dave on this, except I'll put it another way. This is where two fools met...and wanted the same thing. That Eico AF-4 went for over twice as much as I've ever seen one go for before. And I am an Eicoholic.
