Eico HF-30s in the house

diamondsouled

Recycle belly button lint!
These arrived the other day from an Audiogon seller but I only got around to hooking them up today. Boy what a surprise! These have the sweetness of the EL84 but since there is four in each monoblock they have the punch of a pair of EL34s. Almost the punch of a pair of KT88/6550s!

These are keepers for sure.

You just can't go wrong with any of the tube Eico stuff. Great iron. Nice pair you got there. I'm jealous.

I put used RCA gray plate EL84s in just to test it out. Have some NOS black plate EL84s to try in there as well. Should sound real nice once they're burned in:music:. I'm pretty floored just how much power they put out. Of course my Altecs are fairly efficient.

I've had a pair of HF-30s for several years now; the early version with separate input and driver tube. Added a cap and r for the screen circuit, which helped smooth things out a lot.

I've been considering running them triode, but really haven't had the time lately to do any modding :( . I drive a pair of Altec 604-8ks with them, and they sound very nice.

You're right on the sound; nice and solid low end, nice mids, and clean highs. Plus, cheap output tubes!! What more could you want? :music:

What tubes do you run in yours?
