anyone have any thoughts on this amp and the asking price? The ad says it's mono, but it looks stereo to me... Should this be my first tube amp?

Ebay prices are all over, but $150 is definitely not a bargain. It's a mono integrated amp, dual EL84 outputs. You can get two for stereo if you want, but if you're looking to get into tubes my advice is to keep looking.

One of the cleanest ones I've seen in a while. If it was local, I'd pick it up. But I have the matching FM tuner and a mono console needing guts... Sure, I'd try for $125 but I wouldn't mind $150 either.

A very, very good mono integrated amplifier. An HF-81 is two HF-12s on one chassis (right down to dual rectifiers) -- only one PT, though.
A good, restored HF-12 with good quality (brand) tubes is easily worth $150 (price an HF-81 some time). An "as-is", I'd think, would suggest some discount from that price -- $125 might be perfectly reasonable.

I had a pair and regret selling them.

They make great monoblocks. Using the TAPE OUT jack as an input bypasses the whole preamp section.

If it has it's original tube set, they'll be Eico branded Mullards.

If that was $150 CAD, I'd buy it!
