Eight Deluxe owners, I have a question.

I was looking at an E-bay auction for an Eight Deluxe. The pics and description indicate that some of the lettering is rubbed off. How can this be, I thought. The lettering on mine is engraved.

So my question to you is, is the lettering on your Eight Deluxe engraved or not?

Mine's definitely silkscreened, not engraved. Didn't know Sansui engraved their faceplates.

Are all the Eights engraved?

I'm thinking maybe it was a cost reduction effort with later 8D's. The Eight came first, so maybe all the Eights were engraved and up to a point the 8D's were as well. Then at some point, cost reduction started to kick in and all 8D's (and you would think most other models, at least the ones below the 8D) were also silkscreened faces.
 
My Eight Deluxe lettering is silk screened.
I think the Eights had knobs fitted with grub screws,but the knobs on the Eight Deluxe used no grub screws.
 
My Six's are not engraved.
Seven is not engraved.
Eight is engraved.
Eight Deluxe isn't engraved
and the 7000's are not engraved.

Do you have an Eight with a tuning knob that does not have a screw, or a Deluxe that has a screw?

My Eight has two screws for the tuning knob, the Eight Deluxe has two screws for the tuning knob. All four 7000's have screws for each knob, two for the tuning knob.
 
Wow, this is getting weird.

The tuning shaft on my Eight Deluxe has a key-way that a piece of the plastic knob insert fits into when installing the knob.

At least the face is engraved.:D
