Eight little watercolour paintings, Italy, Summer 1954 - and more...

A romance in an Italian summer night.

Nice . . . Genoa .. . . and A romance in an Italian summer night are my favorites so far, although all are so wonderful.
To me, they capture the feeling of art and ads I may have seen growing up in the 50s and 60s. I love that kind of art. It shows a style and grace the world seems to lack now for more than 30 years I think.

It makes me want to listen to a playlist like this - - -

That's very cool !

I had a couple of framed ladies fashion type watercolor paintings in my hand a few weeks back at the thrift, sat them down and a lady grabbed them right after I walked away. They were nice, stopped and looked at them three times before I picked them up.

Genoa...home of flatpicking-guitarist Beppe Gambetta :)

Those paintings...and the advertising artwork (like we used to see in newspapers when I was a kid) is fantastic.

I think I like #2 in Nice the best, but they are all great.

Never came to mind, someone had to draw those fashion adverts!

These are lovely, your mom is quite talented! Thanks for sharing...

My mom was pretty good at drawing, as well - especially cars - I wish I still had one of her drawings that she did for me as a kinder... :-)

Nice paintings, Chris - lovely 50s style. But that the Vierwaldstättersee and Nice should be in Italy would be new to me... ;)

Greetings from Munich!

Chris - Something your dear mother might enjoy.

In the late 70s I worked at an agricultural warehouse. There was a gentleman there who was born in 1927 (about the same as your mother if I'm not mistaken.) He had been in the army, and spent alot of time in Germany during WWII, and later in Korea.

He loved to paint, and would bring his paintings and hang them in the office. If someone wanted to buy one, he'd sell them for whatever he had in materials and frame. I was quite fond of his work, and bought a few through the years. Unfortunately, he passed in 1988 at the age of 61. My kids have some of hos work, some didn't survive our recent move, but a few are proudly hanging in out house.

Your mother's drawing of the building with the boy in my window caught my eye. Here is a poor photo of one of Henry's paintings. The similarity between styles lead me to believe that they may have shared the same perspective in their work. This painting is hanging proudly in our family room.
