Elac B6

I wanted to get some input from owners of these Elac B6's. I have read many glowing reviews regarding these B6's, and also the B5's. There is also a great review in Stereophile magazine praising these affordable B6 speakers. Chime in with your opinion...

I thought they were really rolled off at the top, so were dull and didn’t have any dynamics.

The bass could also be boomy, but this is true of many rear ported speakers. I don’t hold that against them at all.

But the top end was really bad to me.

I was looking at the Elac's months ago. I wanted a modern pair of bookshelves to compliment a vintage Ads tower. I considered the Elac B5, Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, and Focal Aria 905's. I rolled the dice and chose the Focals and couldn't be happier. Their imaging is superb and quality build is second to none. Pair them with a quality sub and you'll never look back.

my ELAC B6s...now broken in sound smooth & musical on a small system i set up in a bedroom...this is a good buy for $279....

I just bought a pair around 3 months ago. Not sure if it is my old ears but the rolled off top end does not bother me at all, probably because I wouldn't be able to hear the missing top end anyway. I cant say I was blown away by them but I think they are very good for the money, definitely better than any small speaker I had tried in the past. Not saying there arnt better out there, I just haven't owned a better small speaker.

After living with them for the past three months I put my Polk SDA 2b's back in place and am finding that I miss the clarity and ability of the Elacs. My room just doesn't work with the Polk's as well as these do.
