Elac Miracord 770H arm functions

Happy New Year, everybody! And with the new year usually comes a new turntable challenge. I have this Miracord 770H whose auto functions have been working fine for years, but recently in the process of turning it over to find the source of a hum I managed to do something to the mechanism so that when the next record drops the needle lifts up and then sits back down without playing the record. The first record plays OK. I am clumsy when it comes to turntables, but is there a small adjustment I could make? I don’t think there is anyone within 1000 miles of here who works on turntables.

The other problem is that the headshell lifts so high that it sometimes hits stacked records and so does not drop correctly. There is an adjustable screw between the armlift mechanism and the arm, but that doesn’t seem to have much effect. Rather it’s the hammer-shaped thing behind it all that seems to do the lifting and I don’t see any adjustment to make there. The deck works fine as a manual turntable, but I have loved having the option to play multiple albums.

Thanks for any suggestions that you think might help!

then download the operating instructions and/or the service manual for the 50H or 50H II, which will help you troubleshoot.
You say it works fine in manual mode, do you mean auto functions are correct using the short spindle?

Will do, Jim. Thanks. And yes, using the short spindle the arm lifts up at the end of a record and returns to its cradle. And the auto start activated by the button on the right works too.
