Electo Voice EV-4

A little life for this thread.

A year ago or so I picked up a pair of very well kept EV Fours for next to nothing, hired a moving company and brought them back to the house. Hooked them up to me dining room amp, an Akai AM 2450 and an H/K cd player. Didn't like the sound. Out to the garage they went but again, they didn't mate well with my big Fisher RS-1060. Off to storage and they've been furniture ever since.

Today I went to a local antique store that has a pair in use. I've always liked the sound those put out - very warm, mellow and full of that signature EV high. So what to do? Then it dawned on me to rotate the stock and see what might work. Turns out my old Dual CV-40 amp and Sharp DX-677 CD player (if not first gen, close to it) makes them sing! There's the sound I knew they could produce. Throw in some Leonard Cohen and wow - his deep voice and beautiful background music comes alive. Steely Dan, Dire Straits - same results. These are really gems of speakers despite their now advancing age. A real treat if you can find a pair. But you have to find that perfect combo. It seems they don't take to everything well.

Now I just have to find a place for this fifth setup in the house!
