Electro Voice Aristocrat question

Hi all

I have two EV Aristocrat speakers that I acquired separately. One has a 12TRXB in it and the other has a SP12 with a T35 and X36 crossover. I was thinking of making them a matched set. What would be the best way to go? I can find matching components on EBay and can probably sell whatever I remove. Both the cabinets needed refinishing so now they match. Thoughts?

I recently encountered an accomplished audiophile with an extensive collection - selling some items in N/W Chicago suburbs earlier his month (AUG). He was selling exactly what you describe - "mismatched" EV components in Aristocrat cabinets. He claimed he could not tell the difference in sound. I believe him mostly, but I walked away from those because I am more of a purist as you also appear to be.
Prices can run all over the place to track down the components. Might be best to buy another complete box w/ components provided you know what you're getting. Finding drivers with non-damaged cones narrows the field fast and the price escalates rapidly. If you look for the E-V L-pads, they can be way pricey.
I am new here so just getting my feet wet in this community. Cheers. -Bill.
 
Thanks for your response. I ended up getting another 12TRXB. Unfortunately, it was damaged in shipment but I was able to repair it. I now have the SP12, T35 and X36 that I am probably list for sale. I refinished the cabinets, installed new grill cloth and fabricated new brass grill protectors or whatever they are. I’m happy with the results.

Looking good, congratulations on your project completion.
Curious about how you fabricated the brass highlights on the grill?
 
I started with 1/4” brass stock from Amazon. It turns out those grills are nailed to the frame before the grill cloth is stapled on. I tried soldering the cross pieces together but couldn’t get the solder to stick so I drilled small holes in the pieces, put small wire nails through them from the front and clipped them off on the back and hammered them down like rivets. The brass medallions I found on Etsy. I believe they were for jewelry making. They are smaller than the originals. I attached them with a little dab of JB Weld.
