electro voice EV T25a horns diaphragms

I have acquired 2 electro voice enclosures with possibly regency III. I have tested all speakers with an ohmmeter and they all show readings except the two EV T25a horns. No continuity at all between two points on either horn. I have taken one apart and it looks like the coil is burned out. I have searched all over the internet and cant seem to find a replacement. It looks like this is a 16ohm and they only make 8ohm diaphragms. Has anyone successfully rebuilt these coils or replaced them with 8ohm diaphragms? Just looking for some advise. Should I junk these or try to fix them. Thanks Frank

If your cabs have separate tweeters, they're III's, if not (2-way non-TRX), they're II's. And T25A's of later vintage did come in in an 8 ohm version, FWIW. 2" coils in both, 7/8 throats both. I know there was a period where EV rerouted factory service on certain old stuff but can't find the info. You can try to contact EV, too. Also heard there's an EV fan group on FB, but not a FB-person so couldn't say. Worth a try maybe, but I'm with alteclipsch in voting to retain for a bit. Not that you can't do different/better, but it'd be a bit of re-eng pain if you have the separate (potted) X8 XO. Probably end-up making a new baffle and using a new midhorn, too. Are your XO's the old wood ones or some version of the stampings? Or maybe you have the 15TRX woofer so that's your tweeter? Pics are good :)

Thanks for the pics. That thing is interesting. EV parts are early-to-mid 50's. Looks like it started life as a diy II but I can't swear whether it was a kit or all homebrew w/o seeing more. Either way, I'd expect the x36 to be as new as the monarch.

I guess it's down to what you want to do and different people would go either route. If 8 ohm diaphragms are all there is, then that's that. The question is what do you intend/hope for them?

It's like an old car or something, right? Some guys would contemplate 2nd mortgages, some guys would flip and couldn't care less. If you don't know yet, that's an acceptable answer as well. If you're entertaining using them, how might they be used, etc. Do they go in a shop or will you tart 'em up for the house? What kind of program material & driven by what kind of rig, etc.

FWIW, those X8's aren't as bad as later ones to unpot/mod (some guys get luckier with what parts are buried), but still plan for less-fun if you do it. And the 8 vs. 16 isn't that big of a deal with that thing & what those do, either, IMO. (Sometimes even the later SP15's had their own level control for the "highs"). If it's me not knowing what to do, I just get repl 8R diaphragms and run it a bit w/o changing anything. Well, I'd make sure it's sealed well, too, but that'd be it. If you're more of a mind to "improve" them, it becomes goal-dependent amounts of work & money but you have plenty of options (almost all of which involve replacing MF & HF things & some baffle-work). Regencys with SP15's are always worth a listen if the T25 diaphragms are remotely reasonably-priced, IMO. Lotta ways to go. If the outsides of the cabs & grilles are decent, I'd do 'em up, personally ;)
