Electro Voice Interface B Series II without the Equalizer

Hi all, in my place there is on sale a pair of vintage Electro Voice Interface B Series II with 12" passive radiators and 8" woofers. the condition is ok, but the equalizer unit is missing. I'd like to know if the lacking of the equalizer a huge negative to the sound? or what kind of amp should I use in this scenario? I am having a Marantz 1060 and Sansui 7070 both vintage amp.

And, secondly, what is the sound characteristic of these speakers? can anyone who have heard them tell me do they sound similar to any speaker models of other more common brands (just so I can have a better idea because the guy lives a little far from here, I might want to consider should I spend my time going there.)

I grew up with the Interface A, which is very similar to the B. They are very nice sounding speakers which exhibit a balanced overall sound. The bass is as solid as a rock! And yes, you do want/need the equalizer. Compared to other vintage speakers, they fit very nicely between the East and West Coast sound. Not as laid back as AR or KLH, and not as forward as Jbl or Cerwin Vega. EV got these speakers right, definitely worth owning.

thank you so much for the above advices. unfortunately the seller has no eq unit anymore. wondering if I should take them......

The equalizer shows up on eBay from time to time. I would ask the seller for a price reduction in the amount of the eq plus shipping.

you really need that eq. especially the B's. you can play the speakers okay but if you run infrasonic bass in your program sources (like HT explosions, dinosaur stomps etc, or huge taiko or Wagner bass drums) you will over drive the woofer. The eq curve on the B rises to just under 35hz and then "falls off a cliff" with a steep filter. that filter is there to protect the woofer.

ime, the A's could handle more using a better woofer (beefier). their extension to 30hz was a little smoother.

the B is a great speaker for a two way with a small woofer however.

I do have an extra Electro Voice Interface: B/C Equalizer in pristine condition. If anyone is interested, I am going to be selling it.

EV Interface B Series II question. Are these the correct speakers? I can’t find numbers anywhere else!
