Electro Voice Interface Speakers

I recently sold my B's and bought some C's from a fellow AKer. They only intensify my admiration of the vintage EV lines.

I agree as well- as you move up the letter scale then do get much better! If you liked the C's- the "D's" would certainly impress you! Those VMR's make them incredible to listen to for long periods.............

My parents had a pair of Interface A's. When the surrounds rotted out on the passive radiators they threw them away! Wish I knew what happened to the EQ.

I have a pair of Interface C II that I bought new ~1982. I retired them when I got a big screen TV & HT but I still have them. They are in great condition other than some scratches and the foam tweeter lens fell off one of them. I really loved them, they would CRANK with my Carver M1.5 amp! I never had the EQ for the C's, I crossed them over to a JBL 2245 18" sub in a 12 cu ft box. It was powered by a Carver C400 "cube" amp bridged in mono. Blew the original JBL driver listening to the 1812 Overture (original Telarc pressing). I resurrected the sub with a new driver for use with the HT.

Here I am, bumping another old thread on only my second post! Also, I may need to apologize...My experience with posting photos on message boards is strictly limited to the vBulletin platform. Forgive me, if these photos don't resize automatically. That's what I'm used to.

I recently acquired a pair of Electro Voice Interface 2 speakers with totally rotted out foam. I mean, there was ZERO foam! This is my first attempt at re-foaming. So far, so good on the 8"...

But I just pulled out the 10" woofers, and... NO MAGNETS OR COILS!!! Is this normal to the design on these speakers? As others have said in this thread, it's not easy to come by information on Electro Voice.

Did I just find some 35 year old counterfeit speakers, or are they really supposed to be like this? Other than the 10" drivers, the speakers, as a whole, look extremely well made.

It's a passive radiator, that's how it's supposed to be.

The EQ box is mathematically an integral part of the design. Ported/passive radiator systems are derived from a 4th order polynomial. In order to push F3 down a little lower, A.N. Thiele at EV used a 6th order polynomial. He mathematically split the equation into a 4th order part and 2nd order part. The 4th order part in the box, the 2nd order part is the electronic network. The acoustic output is the blending of these two portions. EV never put out any specs on the box response alone because everything was mean't to work as a coupled system. With a 6th order design the slope of the roll off below F3 is steeper than a regular tuned port design.

I just finished installing the last of the four surrounds. I'm looking forward to hearing the results! I got these EV's as part of a local auction that included a Sansui 6060 receiver. The Sansui didn't need any work at all.

Just to add some more information to this post. If you need any info just go on their official EV page. You can download old manuals/brochures etc. for free. If you have any further information you can contact them and they will help you out. I have recently hooked up a pair of Interface 2 for the first time and wow do they sound good! If I got it right the interface was their entry level series, but I have never seen an entry level speaker with this kind of sound and build quality.

I just acquired a pair of Interface B Series II speakers today, they came complete with the equalizer and foams that need to be replaced. Actually, I purchased them from the original owner and they were extremely well cared for, the cabinets are in beautiful condition. My question has to do with the various "Series" of EV speakers. What is the difference between my Series II and Series III or IV? I was able to download the manual for the Interface B Series III from Electro Voice's website but they did not have the Series II version. Does anyone know what the differences are between the various designations?

I had a pair of Interface B Series I and always thought they were a very good sounding speaker. I never used the equalizer that came with it as I already had an equalizer. The equalizer seemed to be an elaborate tweeter pot with 3 settings. Never felt the need to attenuate or dial back the tweeter. Don't remember it having anything to do with LF response. The model B's had deep tight bass, very good mid range with a slightly rolled off tweeter (18khz I believe). The tweeter was pretty smooth and great for longer listening periods. Liked them much better than the Advents.

I’m really having a tough time trying to verify these are the correct 8 inch speakers for a pair of Interface B Series II. Can you help me out here?
