Electro voice lt-12 pickup

Carbsandcaps

Super Member
Got these cool three way electro voice 12” speakers today. I’ve seen them alone but never in a cabinet. These are some very well built cabinets. 1/4” thick veneer, diamond tile inlay which the seller suspected is where you’d put your ashtray. Nice thick cloth, and 4 small feet underneath. The drivers are in good shape and will be getting new capacitors. Has the tweeter level control on the back. And enough asbestos insulation to insulate a house!

Does anyone know anything about these cabinets? Did they ever come with cabinets or were they driver only and these are possibly homemade?

I don't have a definitive answer for you. The barrier strip on the back, the inlay, and the thick veneer (are you sure that's not ¼" veneered plywood?) suggest homemade, but the build quality and the ribs stabilizing the grille cloth say manufactured. Maybe they were built by a professional cabinet maker.

Are they sealed cabinets? If so, the fiberglass (not asbestos) would normally be stuffed in the cavity, not stapled to the sides; the latter being more common in a ported enclosure.
