IMG_0653.JPG Stopped by a estate sale this morning to look at some vinyl and came across these EV Studio Monitors. They will need a refoam but for $20 I took a flyer on them. I have some pretty good floorstanders so I doubt they will crack the starting lineup but does anyone have an opinion on them based on their experience with them?

I have a pair of Sentry 100As which have the same size enclosure in black vinyl and the same driver compliment. Great sounding little speakers for an 8 inch 2 way. Fairly sensitive also - around 92 db. JOHN

Thanks for the info. I was beginning to think the lack of response was a indication that they were not worth the effort to get the refoam kit.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with them !!

So I finally got around to playing around with these speakers by substituting a pair of Celestion woofers that I have. Pleasantly surprised would be a big understatement to describe my initial impressions of them. Very nice detailed sound with very crisp and clear highs. Running them with my Denon DRA-750. A little more listening is in order but at this point I think they may be going into my current rotation.

Definitely not a speaker to underestimate, the EV sentry100A / MS-802 are great little speakers.
$20 was a very nice score,I'd buy every pair I could @ that price, would'nt even sweat needing to refoam them either,LOL.
Although IIRC the tweeter foams can be a bit harder to find...

Thanks! Cosmetically I don't have a problem with the missing tweeter foam but I'm guessing it was there for a reason as it relates to sound so I guess I have to replace it. I have come across similar foam used as a packing material though it is often white. I think if I keep my eyes open I can find something unless someone here has a source.

Just got a set of these 802s for $25 with ok surrounds but missing the tweeter foams

Havent listened yet but for a second on each

Ive read they are bass heavy
That the tweeter foams are needed ..and that they are a sandwich of two differing densities?
Someone else said they had a bit of a hole at crossover?
But overwhelmingly a very good 2way near field monitor

The tweeter foams, ive read
are available and seemingly for pretty cheap
Perhaps that was years ago. Dont know

Im gonna try thick felt.

Speakerreconing. Com or something like that has the tweeter foams
Like 15$ for the set of foams and that may be per speaker

Im going felt and for those prices you can get the best quality and typically
A lot of it

Congratulations!! They are very good IMO - I think you will like them. Based on my experience they seem to be at their best with Acoustic and Jazz.
Rick Cobb will be able to help. He has a store on eBay but I can't remember his seller's name. Someone here will come up with it. Here is his email: rcobb@tampabay.rr.com

Thanks for the info!

Here is a pic with them setup in my system. I know purists are cringing at my stacking effort but I have limited space.
