Electro Voice; repair or replace?

I have an Electro Voice 12W-1 speaker 16 ohm, that may need repair or replacement. The 12" woofer is about 60 years old and was fine until recently. A rattle/buzz was detected. - I gotta take a closer look, but I have suspicions.

Speaker is a EV Aristocrat corner folded horn cabinet, 3 way. I think the problem is the woofer, more investigation is coming.

Can anybody recommend a repair service for old Electro Voice speakers?

Or if necessary, a suitable replacement? How can I match a new speaker that would replace the 12W-1?

thanks

Long shot, but I had a buzzy subwoofer I thought was shot but it turned out the dust cap had become a bit unglued.

I have some LS12A(s) from 1965 or there abouts; I've seen repair kits for these available; I wouldn't replace, I would repair they are only going to increase in value

Could also try rotating the woofer 180° in case it's suffering from gravity sag (like most of us do at 60 years).
Ha Ha I'll hope for gravity sag - will take the front off next week and look closely.

I will repair the original or find a matching EV replacement; I actually have a third speaker that could be used, but only a last resort.

A face lift plastic surgeon once told me, "In the end...gravity wins"

EV 12Ws are very rare and their best woofer for smaller enclosures. I would contact Speaker Repair Pros in Garden Grove CA a company run by the former tech at Orange County Speakers who no longer does repairs. SP12s would be the best alternative but I’m sure it would be less expensive and wiser to repair what you have.

The SP12W is the same as the SP12, but without the whizzer cone. I just measured mine nearfield (the newer 8 ohm white version) in the Aristocrat enclosure and they were really nice and flat up to the crossover region (https://audiokarma.org/forums/index...-and-eminence-h290-horn.999951/#post-15711271). In my opinion, it is well worth repair, especially if you have two and can place them in corners. According to the literature the SP12 performs like the SP12W if crossed over as a woofer - I would assume you will get the same or better performance if you are planning 2 way..
