Electro voice seven vs seven-a capacitor

I picked up some EV seven-a speakers in great condition; got them to pair with a mint EV 1177A receiver that is a great little unit.

I was replacing the crossover caps but noted they have 4.5 uf NPE caps. The only schematic I can find is for the EV seven (non "a") which shows a 3 uf cap. This cap looks original so I'm wondering which value I need to use. I was thinking the difference between the a and non-a versions was probably more related to the cosmetics rather than the insides. Maybe it doesn't even matter whether I use a 3 or 4.5. I was going to use PP film caps instead of NPE for this. I was just going to stick with a cheaper NPE for the 8 uf since doesn't look like this one should really affect the signal. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Here is schematic for the "non-a"

The thing with caps in X-overs is Voicing and your preference.
In that Decent Poly/foil caps are relatively inexpensive.
Parts express has the Audyn Red ones, that sound pretty good, and will not break the bank.
buy 2 -3's, 2- .8's and 2 -.7 uf's. or .9, +.6's,,, close multiple's. Try all 3 including combo's.
with-out soldering them.
and go with what sounds best.

Don't know if this applies to the EV-7/7a speakers, but the difference between an EV-4 and 4a is a different tweeter. One had a horn tweeter and the other a cone tweeter. Maybe the same for the 7s?:dunno:

If the 4.7 uF is factory original, I don't see any reason to use another value. Only if there is something you don't like in the sound. A smaller capacitor will shift the crossover point a bit higher.
