Electrohome console surround problem

Hi guys,
Ive noticed over the past wk, every so often the console speakers in my electrohome switch into an annoying matrix surround mode, sometimes it corrects itself and goes back to reg stereo...which is the only way i use it
I know this unit was wired for those little surround speakers that electrohome made, but i don't have them
nor am i using the B speaker outputs to anything in the house

Is there a short in the switching or speaker lines in the reciever?
all my external connections check out

the model is the Santa Cruz, but the reciever was offered in many of thieir systems i think
