Electronic Crossover

If I had to take the "Pro" out of my gear I'd also have to give up the Eminence Alpha's and Beta's. Nothing wrong with diversity.

Nothing to lose by trying the Rolls as Parts Express has a liberal return policy. This may be your only chance to own a Rolls.:D

I have this http://www.thevintageknob.org/sony-TA-D88B.html

It can be used as a 2, 3 or 4 way. I was also able to locate the insanely rare "0" modules for it as well they have the 50-80-100Hz cutoff points. this is an amazing piece of kit.

But with that said I also have 2 Ranes and think they are very good for active set ups.

active crossovers

I have my NHT 2.9 - 4 way front mains each quad amped. each speaker gets a total of 825w
I picked up a couple used Yamaha F1040 4 way active crossovers. You can set the levels and frequencies for each driver
An audio engineer friend did the set up and they really sound quite good.

Love this hobby, Ann

Currently using an EV Tapco EX 18 in my main system and couldn't be happier with it. Picked it up cheap a few years ago on that auction site.Solid state for the bass (Audio Source 100 wpc) and Dyna St70 tubes for the mids and hi's.I have used the Pyle in my system and it was OK especially at the price but it's crossover points didn't suit my needs. Reading latlely that mini DSP have certain advantages over analog active crossovers.
How does miniDSP works internally? It is digital, so what happens to the analog signal, is there any conversion ADC/DAC?

There is A/D/A conversion. That is why with this kind of setup it is better to feed crossover system with digital rather than analog signal.

Well, this means it all comes down how good is the DAC in the miniDSP, making the source DAC useless, right?
In that case if I have a good DAC and want to keep it I better use an analog active crossover.

That is correct. But any possible loss from DAC quality, is well outweighted by doing all processing in digital domain, where much higher precision is possible. You may decide to use digital crossover with DIGITAL output, and get your own DAC for each subchannel.

One thing I learned with the Behringer cx2310 was that it performed far better on just the mids and highs in my three way system. The x10 frequency switch on the back allows that flexibility.

My bass crossover is accomplished by Yung plate amps which according to PE have a 12db slope that's recommended for the Alphas 15a woofers I use.

The miniDSP is already set-up for home use via RCA jacks. Correct me if I'm wrong but the pro gear with xlr connections use very different input and output levels like 20db different. I'm aware this is often not a problem but I've also read numerous accounts where it was a problem.

Many analog 2way XO have "mono summed LF output"...
What does it mean in terms of freq? it filters the low freq? if so what's the range?

I'm thinking about getting a Rane AC 22S Active Crossover but I'm concerned I'll have problems going from the XLR outputs of the Rane into by amps that only have RCA's inputs. Have you all experienced any problems doing that?
Hum or anything?
