Elipson 1812 Arpege Speakers

i drove to Montreal with my son last night to pick up a pair of Elipson 1812 Arpege Speakers. I found the listing on CAM. Research gave very little information so I decided to put in this thread to spread the knowledge here in North America. They are quite rare here, but highly respected in France. The company is or maybe was France's official Radio Electronics company. They are known for innovative and original designs. When I saw this style, I wanted to try it out. We worked out a mutually acceptable deal, and so to Montreal we went.

First of all, they are smaller than I was expecting. I had looked at the specs, but I guess it didn't register. These are very nicely veneered 32 inch tall 3 way acoustic suspension towers. All the drivers look original. I was told the owner had had the midrange reconed, but I think they were just refoamed. I'll find out more when I open them up.

Here are the specs.

I have a pair of Melodine MKII 3 way... no where as big or as quality as yours. They have the sweetest mids ans highs ( Audax and Vifa ) but the bass is short. Should not be the case with yours.
Enjoy them .

They are very nice. I've tried them on my McIntosh mc2205 and a Yamaha AX630 Integrated and the bass is a little light, but they are very balanced. Tomorrow, I will bring them to the man cave and plug them into one of the Bose 1801s.

Here are some pictures. The flash washed out the colour in that one shot.

I think they are not intended to be party speakers, never. I do wish they would have provided a little more '' under 60hz ''
bass rendering.

Yours have a nice wood veneer finish.

Again, a plus in the mids and highs but a somewhat, minus on bass rendering.

Enjoy !

I think they are excellent apartment speakers! Great detail and balance with the 3 drivers. Perhaps being from France, these are designed for apartments where bass is not desirable. Mine are rated for 50Hz. I think if you really wanted more bass, you could simply add a powered subwoofer. Or use them in a 5.1 set up.

Those are nice drivers! I'm very surprised they only go down to 60 Hz! How big is the woofer?

I'll take some pictures of the drivers in mine once I get some time. Things have been nuts lately!
