I think the receivers in photos 90 and 133 are Radio Shack but I suspect built for them by Sherwood or Sherwood's Japanese partner. Much as Sherwoods of that vintage are revered, I wouldn't bother with these. You can get the real thing; actually there's one coming up in Skokie you can find through the same site.

There may be some hidden gems in some of those boxes with misc. parts. I'd be at this if I was closer just to dig around where others probably wouldn't look.

if i were near this i would go, there is a beast mode looking power supply in one of those pictures, i'd snap that up if its cheap for my test bench.

also that motorola (sorry, im not counting the pictures and i dont see any clear indication of them being numbered), anyway, motorola in the brown wood, that looks like a tube radio in very good condition from the one picture they bothered to show...

theres at least one box and at least one bucket of tubes.


i'd snap up those electric motors too if they were cheap, the last time i encountered electric motors of that size, (1/4 to 1hp), i bought 6 of them 12 dollars(all 6 for 12), at an estate sale.


whatever that receiver is with wood panels on the side, i would check that, wood panels are an indication of potential quality in my book.

i'd be looking for other tube radios, world band radios, test equipment, this guy obviously had everything, i would find it.

btw in that pic with the casio keyboard, there are some neat lamps in the background, on the left are 2 that look like they burn an oil, and on the right, all you see of that is one a big white ball, thats part of a 2 big white ball set, one of those gone with the wind type of lamps but without a design on it by the looks of it. you can see it better in the next picture

Oh yes those kerosene oil lamps I have one of those, it is neat how they work. It is also neat how easy it is to almost start your house on fire with those. It is also neat how much they stink up the house once first lit. LOL. It is also neat how many burns I have gotten from mine just showing a friend how it works. Still a neat piece. Just don't get any of the oil on you, gosh that stuff will make you almost throw up!

It's pretty close to me so I'll cruise by and check it out. Hopefully the cold will keep the early line down and if not I will wait til it clears. You know if it's meant to be it's meant to be.
Kim3, I did see the one in Skokie. It's quite a bit further. I'll probably hit it on half price day. Thanks for the heads up.

I see a couple of turntables, probably not the greatest quality but might have some decent cartridges in it. May have seen some loose cartridges too, always look for some nicer ones. If he has loose styli then chances are there will be (hoping) a can full of cartridges for 15 bucks :O That'd be fun to go through. Seen some transformers, some of those can bring some money, if gotten for a couple bucks each. Nothing really stuck out but you never know until you get there. 99% of the time I go to an estate sale they take pictures of what "they" think is good and usually I buy stuff that wasn't even pictured.


Edit: I can't quite make it out but if those are the elusive Quasar 7000's in picture 50 or so those are worth around $6,000

I'm only 20 minutes from elmhurst but didn't see anything that's any better than the crap that's already pushing me out of my home. No offense, I just have too much stuff piled on the workbench.
