EMIM sparks

Very useful info. It sure would be nice to find a wholesale source for replacements of already coated magnets that would fit into our EMIMs. I bet some place in China is making them, or could make those little magnets for about a nickle a piece. I bought a pair of peeling EMIMs off BT for a great price just for the diaphragms, which are in great shape, but the peeling magnets are turning to powder! It's like something from a Felini's "Roma" where beautiful artifacts are destroyed upon discovery because of exposure to air.

I just got back from Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and listened to all of the high end speakers. The EMIMs are right up there still, except for the new MBLs and the Gobels, both from Germany. The MBLs are 175K, the Gobels around the same. Vintage EMIM equipped speakers are a ridiculous bargain.

I finally took apart the sparking EMIM and what i've seen made me sad. All the nickel coating turned into flakes and dust on both back and front sides of the driver. Those flakes shorted the diaphragm in a couple of places. The diaphragm has local burns. It measures 7.6Om instead of 3.4 written on the diaphragm. I did my best to clean the magnets, so nickel is all gone, but the magnets seem to turn into dust under my fingers.
So the question: is there a source for High Energy EMIM diaphragms? And may be there is a source for the magnets to replace the peeling ones?

It's all covered in this thread:
