Emit Tweeters

What's the difference between the Emit (902-2645) and Emit-K (902-3082), other then the K model's mounting flange being a bit larger in diameter ?

I have a pair of Celestion 66's with bad tweeters...virtually Unobtanium compared to the Emit's availability.

The emits from my RS5000 restoration project has the same 5K crossover that the Celestion HF2000 has.

Any thoughts if the Emit would be a suitable replacement...at least until I can find affordable HF 2000's ? Any good way to protect them from blowing? There's no fuse or other protection circuit in the Celestion 6 that I can see.

Both tweeters use the same diaphragm. The main difference between the EMIT and EMIT-k is in the magnet structure.

In terms of usage, it is certainly possible to use an EMIT in the Celestions. However, you'll want ot look at the crossover frequency from the midrange to the tweeter to make sure it's in the working range for the EMIT (which it probably is). The other thing is the output level...if the EMIT's output level is not a match to the other drivers, the speaker may sound out of balance, with either too much or too little treble output. This can be tamed, but just something to be aware of.

I don't have sophisticated test equipment, but running the same level of 5Khz and 8Khz thru the good HF2000 and the Emit from the RS5000 seems to produce the same level of sound.

Both tweets were out of the enclosure, powered by my headphone amp, playing recorded test frequencies. Both have 5Khz crossover specs.

They should be fine.
What Tedrick is talking about is the sensitivity of the emit.If it produces a higher spl at 1 watt 1 meter then it will sound louder and there will be a mismatch in loudness to the other drivers.
The operating frequencies that you are talking about is fine. The Emit will work comfortably within a frequency band between 4500 -10000Hz.
I do also know people who have experimented with the different frequency bands and slopes with all the ribbon drivers that Infinity have made, and come up with very interesting results.Lowering the frequency of the emit to around 2500-3000Hz/12db and raising it to over 10000Hz/6db was that seperation and imaging were sacrificied to gain soundstage.
If the emit sounds to loud, then all that is required is a resistor in series on the positive lead after the crossover and before the emit to tone it down.

emit 2645 -3082

I believe the emit 2645 is smaller and mounts with three screws....if you match it up to an emit 3082 ...the 2645 is actually the same diaphram as the semit in a kappa 9, the 3082 is the same as a emit -K four screw and larger mount plate

Would a fuse in line to the tweeters protect them?? Seems that the Celestion HF2000 is very "tender" and blows frequently.

The RS5000 Emit has a 3 1/2 or 3/4 in mounting plate. A 4 inch plate would fit perfectly.

I'll be looking for a HF 2000 to be the final replacement, but will use the 2 Emits lying "idle" until I get time to refoam and strengthen the RS 5000 cabs.

A 1 1/4 amp fuse is spec'd for the EMIT in my Infinity RS IIIs. I replaced with 1 amp and have listened loud without popping it.

Use a celestion tweeter. That's the strength of those speakers. First time I heard a pair I stopped what I was doing caught by the smoothness. The emit to me is too sharp. Have infinity 7.1 mk2 replaced round emit with Morel 29s. Better plus screwed right in
