Empire 498 suspension setup; Motor oiling

Hi All,
Recently I acquired an Empire 498. Actually, it may be a 498g, if there is such a thing because it's gold. I'm hopeful that someone could point me in the right direction in setting up the suspension. When I got it the suspension was tightened all the way. I've adjusted it to where it looks like the thumb nuts were, but I'm sure that's not very accurate.

Also, I'm looking for the proper procedure for oiling & maintaining the motor. All is working well now but it looks like it's been a long time since this unit has seen some TLC. The turntable bearing is cleaned, oiled and good to go. I'm a little concerned about the motor though.

It sounds great with a new M97XE, though what they say about the head carriage is true. That system is flaky.

Some members here swear by 3-in-1 oil. Stuff is nasty. A few of the varieties use veggie oil, which will ruin your motor bushings. I only want the best for our new audiophool and his turntable.
I use only NON-detergent car engine oil on the turntables that I fix. It will not clog the pores of the bronze bushings. This group has many Empire lovers, and best of luck with the new toy.

The blue-label "electric motor" 3-in-1 oil should be straight, non-detergent 20W SAE oil.
 
I simply have never trusted it. A long time ago, I bought a few quarts of non-detergent oil so I can lubricate turntable motors. It is just about gone now. From when I was a kid, I remember the smell of 3-in-1. It sure has something in it. It is simpler to just purchase what I know is best and quite possibly most pure. Too easy to spoil those motor bushings.
 
The suspension should be adjusted so that the outer rim is 3/16" from the surface of the plinth. I use Slick 50 synthetic motor oil to lube the platter shaft and bearings on all of my tables. I also have a 498 (and a 598 MKII) but the 498 is in need of a motor......
