Empire 598 Please help!

Dear forum members,

I am new to this forum but interested in music and hifi for more than 40 years. I am a big McIntosh and Magnepan fan, so these units build my main listening system.

Very recently, I got interested in an Empire 598 turntable when I saw it on ebay (it is the one with the golden color). I googled for information and I finally decided to buy it. It is beautifully made and so simple but perfectly working.

Now, I would want to set it up correctly and get the best out of it. I already have a lot of information from the net, also from this site. Still, I would love to have a manual for the turntable and the 990 tonearm. I did read that the manuals are available as pdf from vinylengine and tried my best. But I am not allowed to download them without being a member on vinylengine. So, why not become a member, but no, the site currently doesn't accept new memberships.

That doesn't feel great, the information is available via downlod within seconds but I can't get it.....

So, please, if one of you could send me the manuals or provide me with a link, this will be very appreciated. Thank you in advance!

And one more question, as much as I like the look of the Empire, I have the problem with the rust or staining of the metal parts. Especially the tomearm doesn't look good. If it is the metal itself (cheaper pot metal), I would need to take the coating off and try to polish it. But is there another method to clean it other than trying my best with isopropanol or the like?

Cheers,
Frank

There are other versions on VE but they are too big to attach here.

Thank you so much! I am happy I came here to ask for help.

Other versions means higher resolution scans or more content?

There seems to be a separate manual for the 990 tonearm. Is it just the same as in the 598 manual but for customers who did buy it separately?

There are 598 and 598ii version as well. Not sure how they differ if at all. Havent seen a 990 manual.

You already know to be extremely careful with cleaning.
No polish has ever gone near mine, I just consider the flaws on the plated finish on pot metal as well-earned patina.

Good point. The turntable is now more than 50 years old. And I am sure it will perform again like new. I should accept the patina. And I assume I will.
