Empire 598 tonearm issue.

Hoping to see if anyone has experience with Empire 598 turntables. I have owned one before and was easily able to remove the tonearm. I needed to remove the tonearm of another one that I acquired but it was very difficult to remove. I had to pull and turn several times before I could get it out. When I try to reinsert it, if I push very hard and squeeze I can get it in otherwise it does not fit seamlessly like my other one. I have an Empire 598 I. I suppose the cylinder on the tonearm could be misshapen, it looks like it has been worked on. But I wonder if it was originally for a different Empire maybe an Empire II. Does anyone know if all three Empire 598 versions have the same exact size cylinder on the tonearm?

Thanks!
Steve

You know there is a set screw on the side of the mount to set the tonearm height................

More than a few threads on this table in this forum. ;) If you spend a little time searching around I am certain you'll find more info about these tables then you thought available. While searching you'll also realize there are some much more knowledgeable than I on these tables. Send them a PM for assistance. As far as I know the arm was the same regardless of it's version designation, I, II or III. As WaynerN indicated and your last picture shows there is a set screw to deal with. Are you certain it's out of the way. Any obstruction that you can feel but not see? Definitively don't think this is something you want to be forcing.
