ENERGY Pro Series 2.5 Speakers

Anyone familiar with these speakers. A pair offered on Craiglist a 35 minute drive from here I live. Is it worth a trip to audition them? Asking price is $150 but open to offers. What is fair price? What would be steal? How much is too much to pay/offer?

They were Energy's midrange series starting in the early/mid-90s or so I believe. Specs are available on their pdf - I think it's 50-20, 3/4" tweeter and 6.5" woofer. I had the Pro 4.5 - they were nice for what they were. Might be worth a listen, but I wouldn't expect more than a decent pair of bookshelf speakers.

Don't confuse them with the Energy Pro 22, If you need a small pair of inexpensive speakers I'd go for them at 100 bucks tops...if you're just a speaker hoarder I'd look for something better to hoard.

Thanks for the advice - I had heard some good things about Energy speakers -
I'll take pass on these - now I know which ones to look for.

The Pro 22 is great. The only issue is that the ferrofluid in the tweeters dries up.
I got a mint pair with papers and stands from the original owner for much less than the above posting's asking price. However, unless you want to put in other tweeters, the rebuild can cost you a lot. There is a guy in Canada who rebuilds them (ex Energy employee). With shipping and the investment you will spend significantly more than the acquisition price. Many claim though that they are worth the hassle and money. I will put some money aside and eventually bite bullet just b/c I am curious.
There is an even better version which name is escaping me now. now those are killers supposedly. Enjoy the hunt!
