EPI-100 on CT CL

Something is wrong here. I subscribed to this thread, but haven't seen any notifications.
Anyway... I don't know about model 100. My 202 is a different speaker: two woofers and two tweeters and they are on two adjoining sides of the speaker cabinet.
I did A-B with HPM-100 and immediately got rid of Pioneers. Compared to EPIs they were very harsh. To think about it: probably out of all vintage speakers I ever had EPI are the best sounding.
If you are interested at least talk to the seller and listen them if it's possible.
If they are in a good condition price is about right.
 
I have a pair of EPI100's and in my estimation $60 is quite fair. Very nice speakers with surprisingly tight bass.
 
My recapped EPI-100M's are my current favorites, if I didn't have 3 other pairs of 2-way speakers in various states of repair I would probably be chasing this seller. :)
 
Search threads by vinylviola - his real name is Tyler and he wrote an excellent comparison pitting the 100s against Dynaco A25s and AR4xs.

$60 is a good price if the 100s don't need refoaming, which seems to be the case. It's even a better price if the 100s have real wood veneer.

i got a response saying that they have been refoamed a couple of years ago, and work fine. Sellers says that in the picture you can see a tear in one of the surrounds which he "put a dab of glue on". There is a chip on the back top of one cabinet but otherwise in pretty good condition.
I am thinking to check them out tomorrow...
 
So, I went to check them out. They did sound nice. But one of the woofers has a tear which was glued back together. So we go upstairs to pull one of the woofers from a pair of EPI 180. I ask the owner, whether he would consider selling those. After a bit of discussion and thinking (WAF) we agree. The cabinets are much nicer than the 100, two pair of woofers and tweeters in each. The only "real issue" is that one of the grills is missing the EPI logo.

I am listening to them now. Compared to the BA A150 the tweeters are less "obvious", there really is no harshness listening to radio. I will keep testing with my favorite CDs and LPs.

Having heard those dbx soundfield V's my honest opinion is that they're worth about one tenth the asking price on a good day. Build quality also leaves something to be desired as well.
Where in Ct. are you located Sancho22 if you don't mind me asking?

Vlad - no more speakers for me unless they are something high end or cool vintage for next to nothing. I would likely jump on KLH 17/5/6 or Dynaco 25 IF it would be a killer deal. Maybe DQ 10, but woul need to sell some of mine for that one.

I'll give you a break. This weekend I'm leaving for Chicago (my son is graduating from a Navy boot camp) and in two weeks I'll be picking up my daughter from college (at least 3 day trip). So you will have some time to be prepared :D

By the way: I never heard of EPI 180. Are they two-sided? I remember reading somewhere that driver's sides suppose to be facing the corner. Or may be it was about something different? Well, getting old :tears::tears:
