EPI 100 stack

I successfully restored a pair of near mint condition EPI M100 (the first version with the masonite tweeter). I've installed Daytons 10uf 250V polypropylene caps and refoamed them. They sound GREAT. I've just tried them and I'm thrilled.

I already had a pair of EPI A100 (the early 80s version with the red ring around the tweeter). I know for a fact that these have recently installed 10uf 50v NP caps. These were installed in my living room.

So I wanted to compare both (switching from A to B, trying different songs), not expecting that much of a difference in sound. Woah. The M100 have a much more impressive soundstage, more bass, and offer a much more "colorful" sound.

However, the A100 do have something to offer in the low highs especially, I think. Switching from speakers A (A-100) to B(M-100) to AB (both!), clearly the most impressive sound came from the third option (AB)

Now, I know stacking is a common practice and that many don't recommend it but... should I? I would be inclined to put the A100 over the M100 (who generates clearly more bass) - a shame, though, because that real walnut cab is very nice and would be somewhat hidden by the cheaper-looking A100. Also, can I simply sit the M100 on the floor and stack the A100 over it? How would you do it, if at all?

My wife is hating my new hobby more and more by the day.

Most of us don't have 4 speakers of same model to stack and it's usually reported with great results and only a sprinkle of nay sayers.
First don't let anyone here tell you what you hear. Let yours be the only judge OK?
Start stacking Tweeter to Tweeter and maybe off the floor 10-12" would help. I have done a lot of stacks and putting a placemat or soft vinyl between speakers to lessen scratches and vibration.
What kind of power are we talking about here? Amp wise?

For the time being, I'm using a Kenwood Integrated KA 701, though I'd like to upgrade sometime this year.

Thanks! I think I will stack them. I'll need to find something to lift them from the floor a bit.
 
While what you have can handle the load. i was hoping for the 200+ watts. My first epi 150 sounded nice with a hafler amp and pre 100 watts, then with the second pair and wanting that power stack , I had a dynaco 410 200 watt , real dynawatts, no sleep till brooklyn.

Anyway, just installed the newcomers for good. I will seriously consider an amp upgrade, but damn it still sounds fine in the meantime!
 
Cool. I run stacked Advents here. If you start pushing these speakers into serious volume, I'd recommend that you monitor the heat that your amp is putting out. I wouldn't want to over tax that nice looking vintage Kenny.

As a side note, a throw rug in front of those speakers would help with reflected sound.
