Epi M150 - Refoam, or Rerubber

Have had an old pair of Epi M150s sitting around I’m now getting ready to rebuild. Usual stuff.
But, they’re an early version (24746) and have the rubber surrounds. The rubber is shot and needs to go. And I’ll have to strip the gasket.

Question: foam, or rubber?
And if I go with rubber do I need to shim the woofer cone?

I will just say this- I have the same model speakers- and mine sound noticeably better in the midrange, (better presence) since I replaced the surrounds with foam surrounds, years ago. They seemed to have a slight "hole" in the midrange response beforehand- that was pretty well remedied by the new surrounds (less damping and weight in the surround, means more upper midrange output from the woofer).
