Epicure 20+

Anybody ever own a pair of these or hear them?
I ask because, I found a pair at Salvation Army with the all the foam intact and the cabs in good/excellent condition.

I only got to listen to them real quickly this morning before work but plan on doing some more in depth listening this weekend.

I got some info from the Human Speaker web site but was wondering how efficient they are.
Anybody know?

I was going to suggest humanspeakers.
Orion sez 1977-80 with a list price of $550/pair. Good chunk of change, then.
 
They'll be good. Were the 20's the ones with two "Burhoe modules" and a canted top? Memory's failing me. If so, they're absolutely excellent. Epicure was EPI's (well, Epicure Products') prestige brand, with real veneer, etc. Really no fundamental difference to the EPI line, except in 'quality' of hardware.
 
The 20+ was a late-70's version of the original model the 201. And yes, mh, this one was two 'modules', one facing forward and one firing up, from an angled baffle. I have a pair of Epicure 100's (original owner) and a pair of 50's(purchased as a demo pair, 1 yr after release) The 50's have the 'baby module' with the 6.5" driver instead of the 8". Burhoe got a lot of mileage out of those two drivers. Just heard a pair of 400's (miniature 1000's) with 4 sets of the 6.5/inverted dome tweeter. Pretty sweet, and put out all the volume Thor could ask for, powered by a Marantz 2600! (Cream of the 1970's)

If you got a pair of Epicures with original foam, don't trust them to run very loud or long, before they disintegrate. If they have been redone, already, you have a fine pair of vintage speakers, IMO. (Not that I am biased) If you don't like them, we should talk! :naughty:
 
I have a pair, I had to refoam them and find another pair of original 8" speakers for it. Someone had put in two newer 8" speakers in it later. I think they are a excellent speaker. For a two way 8" they have amazingly good midrange, the tweeter is never ever fatiguing. The design allows the sound to fill a room very well, and when you walk around it never seems like your out of the sweet spot. I added bracing in mine, and took out the fiberglass type insulation and put in poly type insulation. The bracing really helped alot. It doesn't take many watts to drive these either. The bass is very good too, especially after bracing them. You could do alot worse than those speakers. I don't know what they are asking but if the foam is good they are probably worth buying.
 
I thought it was very ironic how close his new speaker design resembles the Epicure 20+. Except for the front firing drivers in the 20+ they are nearly identical. I guess he really liked that design :)
