EQ Hookup

Well I have what should be a simple hookup but it just isn't cooperating. I am trying to hook and EQ to an amplifier and the combinations I have tried don't seem to work. I will list the connections on the back of each component and maybe someone can tell me the proper connections.

AMP: 1 Tape Rec and Play with Monitor switch on front along with normal inputs (tuner, Photo, etc) but I would like to run everything through the EQ using monitor

EQ: 2 Line In's - 1 Output - 1ea Tape Rec and Play

I though it should be AMP rec to EQ output and AMP play to EQ input and then use monitor switch on amp. I have tried it vise versa also. Stumped!

Thanks, Ray:scratch2

Amp Play is actually the input to the amp and Amp rec is the output of the amp. So, connect the amp rec to the input of the EQ and Amp play to the output of the EQ.

dnpainting, thanks I have tried that hookup as well and it is like it isn't going through the EQ. Tried monitor switch on and off and it kills the sound but nothing is eq'd. I have the cd player hooded to the eq input now and from there to the aux in on the amp and the eq works fine. Like I said I am stumped.

Is there a Tape 2 in the back of amp? If there is , that is probably connected to monitor switch. Other than that, all I can think of is there a tape control on the input selector?

a picture or two of the back of these pieces would help. plus one of the front panel of the eq.
wording can be different between brands, picture are better.

i know with my eq, the tape monitor only works when using the tape monitor option on the receiver.
but i can still use the eq without this option, sense the tape monitor option is a recording thing anyway.

Hi Buster!

Here is a diagram that may help you.

Here's how mine hooks up.

Mine wasn't working either until a fellow AK'r noted this:

The EQ's "Main-in" jacks connect to your amps "rec" jacks.

The EQ's "Main-out" jacks connect to your amps "play" jacks.

On your amplifier, switch your "tape monitor" switch to "in" or "on".

Make sure the EQ's front control switch is set for EQ in.

"Tape Monitor" button must be on to work on my system. JVC A-X5 Amp & JVC SEA 40 EQ.

You'll work it out.

Thanks for all the tips, I will work on getting it going this weekend and post model and pics. There is no tape 2 as dnpainting asked. The EQ does have a bypass.

Thanks, Ray

Well thanks for all the help, I am up and running now. Don't ask me what I did because it was the same combinations as I tried before. I guess maybe I was leaning on my left foot instead of my right. Anyway thanks for all the help, much appreciated!
