So I'm playing with a cheapo ESR reader and while it "seems" to be working fairly well, I have a question. I check three main filtering caps ( 4700uf and 2200uf) in a Marantz 1030. The caps checked good in the system but when I powered it up for the first, I had bad 60 cycle hum. I had planned on pulling the caps anyways.. so I did. No more AC hum. On the bench, the caps still checked OK.. 2 VLOSS and about .25 to .30 ohms. The new Rubycon caps are about half that for double the capacitance. The actual capacitance was within the 20% of printed value.
So now i'm wondering if what I think is "normal" is not really good at all. No short, no shifting of capacitance outside of value toloerance but leaking like a b**ch ..not good.
Any comments from more experienced than me
