ESS AMT 1C Replacement speakers?

Sorry if this isn't the right thread to post this in, I'm still new here. I picked up some ESS AMT 1Cs for a bargain, however they are missing the rear speaker, not sure if they were passive radiators or not. However I figure this gives me an opportunity to upgrade the speakers since I've read the real star of the show is the heil transformers with the speakers being somewhat unremarkable. I don't want to put crazy money into these since I got them for $150, but I am willing to spend up to $400 to get them fixed up and sounding nice. Any recommendations for some replacement speakers to put in these? Any information on them at all would be helpful! Thank you!

Don't replace any drivers, in general that's a bad idea with speakers. See your other thread where I responded regarding the passive radiators.

If the main driver works,

Just cover the passive radiator opening for now and limp along until you find some good 15" cabinets.

The bass was never any good, Best to get the tweeter on top of a good woofer something like this Altec.

Source: Owned and repaired over forty ESS Heil tweeters... Pair for repair on the bench right now... Love them~~!

I wouldn't say the bass is bad. Maybe not the best but certainly not bad. IMO.
I would get the radiator replaced and see how you like them. For the price you got them for they are really nice speakers that you may find totally fine.
