ESS AMT 1d verses ESS tower ?

I have a chance to get a pair or ESS AMT towers that are beat up and have mismatched replacement woofer.s I currently own ESS AMT 1d's that are in much better shape. I have heard people comment that the ESS AMT tower speakers can be modded to sound much better by upgrading the woofers and adding a mid-range with the necessary changes made to the cross overs. The ESS AMT 1d's I would probably leave as is due to lack of conventional wisdom on successful mods. . If I can pick up the ESS towers for $80 I would sell the ESS AMT 1d's. The guy had the towers in his drive way and they sounded pretty good. A google search turned up a modded tower that looked very sharp. Walnut veneer on all 4 sides with no grills and the top enclosure was cut off to reveal the AMT tweets. Any one mod ESS AMT's? The mod is supposed to address short comings in the mid-range.

Hi.
I have a set of 1-T's, original. One owner.
For $80 I'd buy them in an instant. Swap the woofers.
Good bass extension with the T-line. Stylish too.
Towers do have a soft mid range. AMT is not up to it.

Yeah ...the T-Line tower has a lot of potential. What about the ESS AMT 1D. Anyone have an opinion on how these compare to the tower ESS ?

This may not help you, but I also have the 1AM monitors.
I think that, with their 12" and 12" passive, they are an excellent speaker, and
bi-ampable. Don't know how they compare to the 1D's.
