ESS AMT bookshelfs

These look like a pair a roommate of mine in college had but I can't be sure. If they are, they sounded fantastic and were very efficient. Anyone have knowledge/experience with these?

Those are rather nice speakers using the later next-gen reduced-size "Great Heil" AMTs (or AVTs [air velocity transformers] as they are now called) instead of the round "Power Ring" version used in these. Either one will sound great. The choice comes down to whether you prefer 10" or 12" woofers.

I have a pair of Tempest L-5's that I recently restored. Power Ring Heils, 10" woofer, and rear passive. Original woofers were shot and replaced with 10" JBL 127H-1's and the rear passive flat discs we're replaced with cone-and-basket versions. Nice sound... :thmbsp:
