Found a cheap set of ESS AMT5's.
24x12x14.5" cabs housing a 12 inch woofer in a sealed/acoustic suspension cabinet.
Smaller round monopole Heil.
Crossed over @ 1500hz.
Heil fused @ 2amp fast blow.
Nice PCB based crossover-3 coils/3 capacitors and 3-way brightness switch (4 resistors) for the Heil.
Cap Values are 3x33uf-1x20uf.
Cabinet is well made-passes knock test!
Front to back brace right above woofer opening, and corner/front/back panel supports.
The stock woofer, is a very nice 2" Alnico voice coil inverted foam surround woofer with a big X-max.!!
Much nicer then the stock AMT3 woofers.
Of course, I'm upgrading to the Eminence 1240SF. Because it's output and flat frequency response just past 2.5hz will better match the Heil and create a more even, pleasant across the board-top to bottom response.
Very efficient, flat response woofer-so response up and past the critical crossover point should not be a issue. Throwback foam surround paper cone woofer, modern thinking, and materials.
Woofer is specifically made for SEALED cabinets.
Caps will be replaced the Janzen crosscap-new wire, and probably resistors as well.
I will also play with the damping, and do a mix of materials to optimize the cabinet, and bass response. Deep, tight and full.
I'm also going to cover the stock dark walnut vinyl with some cool knotty pine Con-tact paper I have setting around. Some AMT5 cabs cam with real wood veneer.
I like this format-small cab-big woofer, and of course a Heil!! And they can be found fairly cheap. Better, IMHO to most Performance Series-except the PS1220. Although I still think a paper cone woofer is superior sounding to a poly-especially when matched to a Heil driver.
And, as I have found with my Mojofied ESS AMT3's-sealed bass is the ONLY way to go. With a powerful woofer, there is no need for a passive slab/etc. Tight-extended, and tuneful-that's what works with the Heil.
