Yes. I got both pair of their phones the year before last on a special promotion. Now I know why I listen to their speakers and not their headphones..
They are back in their boxes and will remain there.
 
I have owned a set of Koss 4AA phones from new. A bit uncomfortable but this we all know.
A domestic product with lifetime warranty.
Mine are being held together with spit and bubble gum. Koss no longer does repairs on this item. Rather, they exchange these things for a new one from china.
Also, this free headset that ESS claimed has not yet been released (by them) is available under a different label for $80.
Free is free, but I would rather have gotten something cool.
 
Yesterday, I got an email from ESS offering me a pair of large diaphragms plus a mystery box of a new product all for $160 plus shipping. I have a few spare diaphragms and I don't need another pair of headphones, so I'll pass. Just a sale on the diaphragms would be more useful.
 
Two Mundorf fancy-schmancy crossover caps came. Eight point two mfd each and my meter even says so.
Hooked them up and unsoldered the CS99A tweeters, three in each box.
Sounded poor with no highs, and no sound-stage.
Then the caps started to break in and the magic happened.
On some records, the listening area is filled with sound.
Other records show just how bad they really are. And my Shure V15III with factory stylus now demonstrates just how wonderful it is.
Another round of applause for Bob Kita, cartridge designer extraordinaire.
 
Hey Folks. I'm currently building a pair of OB speakers and ordered a pair of these tweeters to experiment with. They will be actively crossover-ed using a MiniDSP SHD Studio and SMSL dac (which can do balanced outputs if wanted).
Will be using W4S m-Amps for the other drivers.

What amp in the <$600 range would you recommend for these tweeters? I am looking at the cheap chip amps on Amazon (Toppings or Fosi), or maybe something A/B or tubed?

I have several Crown D45 and D75A 1RU amps I've purchased for tweeter use or headphone use. They are cheap, bullet-proof, and quiet.
Quality doesn't have to cost even $100! :dunno:
 
Thanks. I use some XLS 2502 amps in the ht, nice amps. Right now considering a couple of Fosi ZA3s for these tweeters. Looks like all the features I want. Read alot about the new Fosi V3 monos, (vaporware for me as of now) but I need gain controls on each amp.

I think that the Heils like a high current amp. My Heils are just ~3 ohms.

And I wouldn't use them in dipole mode (ruins imaging) and infact I use the rear wave to modify the front wave and produce a flat frequency response from ~3KHz to ~12.5 kHz rather than a continually rising curve with frequency. Makes my Heils sound like no others, unless others have followed my mods..., but I doubt it.

I was checking out our local classified ads a couple months ago and low and behold someone was selling a pair of new, never used great Heil tweeters with all the mounting hardware. Got them for 150.00! Now I have a backup pair for my ESS AMT 1a"s. That was a good day!
 
That's a great deal. ESS has them on sale and (as of now, in stock) for $250 a pair. I get the feeling these things are like Magnepans, been around forever and folks still love em.

Thanks for the info. I ordered a pair! I don't know why, since I already have Beyma TPL-150H, but that's a good price.
 
If you can, give a comparison. I know the Beyma is a higher end, more modern version. May be something I would want to upgrade to later.

I think that the Heils like a high current amp. My Heils are just ~3 ohms.

Pretty sure that rules out the chip amps then.

I wish I had the skills to make something similar to Pure Audio Project Trio10, open baffle dipole top to bottom.. Beyma is monopole.

I would look at something solid state with some current. Tubes not recommended.

They sell a mounting plate kit for the AMTs, not sure if one needs to be a PAP speaker owner to purchase it. Sent them an email to find out.

I own KEF LS50s OG in another system. I remember reading when the LS50 wireless units came out, that they used class D for the woofers, but class A/B for the tweeters.
That's what I need, maybe something for Schiit, etc.

I have an old Aragon 8008ST in the storage closet that would work, but I really don't want to have to pull that thing out again. Probably needs recapping anyway.

Edit: Went ahead and ordered two Fosi ZA3s to be used as mono amps. I found it interesting that folks are rolling the op amps in these things (sorta like tube rolling), may be something I can try later.
