ESS Performance Series 12-C

Hello,

Does anyone know what a pair of ESS Performance Series 12-C speakers are worth (either in good shape, or with bad woofers...see next paragraph :) ) ?

Also, the woofers need replacing (they work, but are falling apart)...how much would it cost to replace them, and where might I find replacements?

Well, I was going to give these away for free, and then I thought, hmmm, maybe that's dumb, maybe they're worth something...but I can't find any info...guess I'll give 'em away!
 
Patience, my friend. Someone with knowledge of these will be along eventually. If you want to know what they're worth, this thread should be in Dolars and Cents.

You said that the woofers are falling apart. Do you mean that the foam surrounds have deteriorated? If so, they can be replaced. There are many here that can help with that too. If the surrounds are shot, don't play the speakers until they are repaired. You could cause more damage to the woofers.

If you have photos, that would be a great help. Please post them.

Yes, the foam is deteriorating. Pics aren't great but you can see a couple spots that are missing and other spots where it's cracked.

I had ONE of those (not a pair), and finally sold it after waiting a few years to find a "twin" for it. I don't have space to collect orphans!

Personally, I prefer the larger Heil AMTs that are open front-and-back, but even those smaller, later, monopole ones are not bad at all. For modest-sized bookshelf speakers, you could do a lot worse. Definitely worth restoring the foam on, and you'll probably want to re-cap the crossover. Don't give them away, before fixing them up and giving them a good listen. You'll probably change your mind about getting rid of them, and if you do still decide to get rid of them, you should get some money for them. Any Heil AMT speaker isn't bad, plus, as you've said, it's a relatively rare model in the ESS line. :music:
