ESS RIBBON TWEETER IDENTIFICATION HELP!

I purchased some ESS monitors a while back. My plan was to refurb them and get new HEIL tweeters. I re-foamed the woofer and replaced the passive radiator. These (see pics) ribbon tweeters came with the speakers. You can see the shadow where the original tweeters were. I have been researching these replacements but can't find any info on them. They are real solid cast iron with large magnets on either side of the ribbon. 5.5" wide x 6" tall x 1.75" deep. Can anyone identify them?

That's pretty unique. Any history on the speakers or who you bought them from?

Have you fired them up? I'd love to check these out.

I purchased the speakers from an estate of a hi-fi audio collector. The tweeters don't put out much sound. I am thinking about buying new diaphragms for these but they cost about 80 bucks each and I'm not sure if they will be a good fit for the speakers. The wires are the same colors as the Heil tweeters.
 
Try recapping first. A cheap fix.

I have to assume those tweeters were made by ESS, since the AMT patent was held by them until the early 2000s, and AFAIK they never licensed it to anyone else. Maybe an early version, or a prototype? Or an unlicensed Asian knockoff?
 
It looks like the diaphragms have the veil on them. I'm not sure when ESS started using that. I know the early ones didn't have that. So, the fella either replaced them (if an early prototype) or they were a one off design by somebody who might still be with us. ... Neil Davis?

I wonder if ESS themselves have any info on these. Got to start somewhere.
