ESS Speaker ID?

For a "bill" I'd go check out ANY ESS speaker!! I've heard two different models and loved both. Assuming they need foam I'd still go check them out, who knows $80 may snag em :yes:

Probably because they're "just" tweeters. The Tempest's don't use the Heil ribbon unit, not even a smaller one like some of the smaller ESS speakers.
The one and only reason anyone gets excited over ESS speakers is because of the Heils, and mostly because of the Great Heils used in the larger series in the 70's.
Any AMT-1 flavor, the taller Monitors, and especially the AMT-3 Rock Monitors are all incredible speakers because of their used of the Great Heils.
Then there are some smaller ones that still use Heil's, but a smaller variety.
Then there are the standard speakers from ESS that sound as good as any comparably built speaker, but not really special. The Tempest is in that group.
When dealing with ESS speakers, it's all about the Heil, and mostly about the Great Heil.

Beg to differ... my Tempest LS-4 sport a "baby" Heil, as do other models in the LS series.

Hey, I'm the proud owner of a ESS model nine.
The speaker used in this one are all made by Peerlessand not Philips.
But ESS is directly related with the AMT Heil Air Motion which are still after so many years incredible (ofcourse I do know and hear them every day).

The ESS nine I have sound great but only matched with a quality high-current amp. An average amp is a mistake here.
4-ohms, minimum 25 wpc, max 450.
The spec says: "Total clarity through instantaneous accelleration". Seems to echo my earlier post:

Guess I'll remove the tweeters to make sure... I want to change from the staples to modern set bolts anyway.
So these were 955 and 1295 DM new, that's a lot for the time. What year was it?
Mine weigh 63 pounds. The port seems positioned closer to the woofer in the Tempest pic.
